The Institution Of Mechanical Engineers (India) is one of the oldest professional institutions in India established in 1914 to promote, advance and update knowledge, business & practice of mechanical engineering professionals.
Among the activities it conducts biannual examinations known as Technician Engineers Part-I & Part-II, Automobile Technician Engineers examination Part-I & Part-II, Production Technician Engineers Part-I & Part-II, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Technician Engineers Examination Part-I & Part-II and Section A & Section B of Associate Membership (also known as Chartered Engineers) Examination in Mechanical Engineering.
The Institution is thus helping thousands of younger members of community working in engineering to obtain engineering qualification & also to advance their technical knowledge & enhance their engineering career but, who have been unfortunate in securing admission in regular Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges due to no fault of their through non formal system of education.Courses

By virtue of the authority vested in the Institution of Civil Engineers (India) by the Govt. of India, the Institution conducts Part I and Part II Examinations for Technician Membership in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering (Which is equal to Diploma Civil & Diploma Architectural) and Section A and Section B Examinations for Associate Membership in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering (Which is equal to B.E. Civil & B.Tech Architectural).
The Institution conducts the Examinations in June and December every year. The Institution may, however, change the frequency and timings if necessary. The Institution maintains reliability, validity and credibility of its Examinations. In order to achieve this objective, several in-built checks and balances are kept in the system.
Candidates working in organizations engaged in the profession of Civil Engineering/ Architectural Engineering are permitted to appear in the Examinations conducted by the Institution in conformity with their eligibility of educational qualifications. Application for registration for Examinations should be submitted through proper channel.
- June Examination - Upto 30th April
- December Examination - Upto 31st October
- Enrollment Fee & Examination Fee - As prescribed by the Institution and as mentioned in the respective form.
Examination fee once paid is neither refunded nor transferred to a subsequent Examination or to any other account except in case of rejection of an application.
The Examination Centers are fixed as per the decision of the Institution. However the Examinations are held in the capital city of the respective State as far as possible.
There is a scrutiny committee consisting of three members of the Institution to determine the eligibility of the candidate or otherwise before the issuance of hall tickets to the candidates.
Each candidate for examination for Associate/Technician Member grade of the Institution shall be provided with an Identity Card indicating therein his/her name, examination to be taken up by him, Enrollment number, address and photograph.
Each candidate who is found to be eligible to sit for the Examination is issued a hall ticket indicating his particulars duly attested by the Institution, and also indicating the Examination Center with its complete address. No candidate will be allowed entry in the Examination Hall without Hall Ticket & Identity card.
The Institution will issue Date Sheet for the Examination, which will be communicated to all the students found eligible to sit for the Examination. The date sheet will be sent to the candidates along with the hall tickets and will also be displayed at the officials website of the Institution.
The Examination will be organized in Morning and Evening shifts.
The Institution will compile the result and declare the same within 6-9 weeks after, the respective Examinations are over.
The candidates shall be required to pass the Examination within a specified period i.e. Technician Membership Part I in a maximum of 4 Years, Part II in a maximum of 6 Years and Associate Membership Section A in a maximum of 5 Years, Section B in a maximum of 5 Years.
Minimum 40% marks in each paper and 50 % marks in aggregate in final attempt. A candidate securing 50% or more marks in a subject shall be exempted from appearing in that subject again and the marks so obtained by him/her shall be carried over. He / she shall be required and allowed to reappear only in that subject where he/she has secured less than 50% marks.
3 Hours each and Medium of Examination shall be English.
Maximum marks in each paper are 100, (Descriptive Type - 75 marks and Objective Type - 25 marks). The assessment for Practical and Project Report will be in Grades.
